Al Shaw Ki

Artist

Al Shaw Ki, (pronounced Al Swah Kee) is an ecclectic, multi-talented artist and award-nominated filmmaker. Al began writing short stories and comics at the age of seven. Using his passion and creative imagination, Al's talent evolved into poetry, music, dance and live performances as a teen. Growing up in the gritty streets of Newark, New Jersey, his mother was determined to keep him out of trouble and on the right path by encouraging him to play musical instruments. Little did she know that he would quickly become a music prodigy, mastering the flute, drums, piano and guitar all by the age of 15. His mother could not keep up with his talent and budding interests as he often found himself bored and on to the next thing. Al soon became fascinated with digital music composition and MIDI technology -inspired by electronic drum machines, samplers and keyboard equipment Al then took up DJing and producing music for the local community, artists and friends.

A major milestone that changed the trajectory of Al's life was being invited to work on the groundbreaking Ernest Dickerson film Juice starring Tupac Shakur and Omar Epps. Cast as a "Dancing Extra" Al received an opportunity to join the principal cast on set for lunch. Breaking bread with Shakur, Epps, Kain and Hopkins affirmed his belief that he was born to do great things in film and music and he began to pursue it relentlessly. He has worked on feature films such as Brooklyn's Finest, All Good Things and Great Expectations. Over time, Al adopted the befitting moniker,"Motion Picturez". Motion Picturez has worked with artists such as Brian Jackson, Sadat X, Artifacts, Diamond D, Bahamadia, DJ Nabs, Boog Brown, Jo Doja, Jazz Poet Society and many others.

Recently, Al Shaw Ki completed a short film entitled, The Razz receiving award nominations for Best Film at the Toronto Art Spirit Film Awards and New York Arthouse Film Awards.

Al Shaw Ki is currently developing new feature films and television projects, while the alter-ego, Motion Picturez is gearing up for the release of his thematic debut album, On The Bright Side and the live, one man show entitled A Quiet Place.
